Meet the team
What started off as the challenge of creating the perfect home for her young family, turned former Police Inspector Kerrie Murray's hobby into a hugely successful, award-winning business.
Frustrated with mass produced, imported home furnishings being offered by other companies, Kerrie wanted to give people a true taste of the quality and range of home accessories made from start to finish in the UK. Encouraged by family and friends, 'Pins and Ribbons' was launched in 2006.
Starting off as an internet-based business, our first 'official' product was a French style memo board - hence our name 'Pins and Ribbons.' Our memo boards are still very popular and our ever-growing range now includes cushions, aprons, draught excluders, fabric headboards, bunting and footstools.
We are also proud to supply hundreds of retail outlets throughout the UK, including small niche shops and major department stores.
Riding on the back of our success, we opened our very first standalone Pins and Ribbons shop in September 2010. Based in the conservation area of old Eaglescliffe, near Yarm, in the North East of England, we stock our own products along with a number of other carefully selected items, such as throws, scented candles, greetings cards, jewellery, wallpaper, paint and fabric - all made in the UK. On top of that we provide a local curtain and blind-making service, along with interior design consultations.
Yet whatever happens next, we will always remain true to our vision of beautiful handmade home accessories made from start to finish in the UK.

Name:
Kerrie
Job: Founder and Managing Director of Pins and Ribbons
Favourite product: Memo boards – their success is
what persuaded me to launch the Pins and Ribbons business in the
first place. I still love them as much now as I did then and have
them in nearly every room of my home.
Passions: Running Pins and Ribbons certainly keeps me very
busy, but it’s really rewarding and great fun too. Five years
down the line and I still get a buzz from every order that goes
out. I love the fact that we’re providing the finishing touch
to a home or sending a special gift to someone.
Business to me isn’t just about getting the job done. My
passion for high quality home accessories and stunning fabrics has
resulted in individual, hand-crafted products, honed through my
love of sewing. You name it and I’ve made it! I’m proud
that I made my own wedding dress and I still make all of my own
home furnishings. I’m not quite so proud of the ‘Rupert
the Bear’ style trousers I once made for all my college friends
– although highly fashionable at the time, photographic evidence
says otherwise! |

Name: Jan
Job: Seamstress
Favourite products: Aprons – whatever’s going
on in my kitchen, it provides the perfect excuse to look stylish
whilst whipping up something to eat and carrying out the household
chores.
Passions: I’m happy to get my sleeves rolled up for
a spot of DIY and love spending time with my gorgeous grandchildren. |

Name:
Leah
Job: Upholster and pattern cutter
Favourite product: Bean bags – with 3 children, there
can never be too many places to sit and chill out. We have beanbags
in our bedrooms, family room and living room and they’re always
a big hit.
Passions: Apart from my children, my husband and our dog,
I love listening to music and dancing. Whether it’s indie,
pop or heavy rock, I’m a fountain of knowledge when it comes
to bands. This comes in pretty handy for our local pub quiz, although
my children would say that my dance moves are best left behind closed
doors! |

Name:
Jenni
Job: Seamstress
Favourite product: Draught excluders – you don’t
have to live in a draughty old house to benefit from our stylish
draught excluder range. Especially after the last two winters we’ve
just had, lots of people have beaten a path to our door looking
for ways to stay warm and toasty.
Passions: I love nothing better than a good get together
with my friends – and the pub is usually a good starting point! |

Name:
Ros
Job: Shop Assistant
Favourite product: Doorstops – I live in a big Victorian
house and have a whole host of Pins and Ribbons doorstops to prop
open our doors. What’s more they co-ordinate with our decor
and the lavender filling smells delicious too!
Passions: I love travel, literature, music, family and friends
– but not necessarily in that order! I also have a bit of
a thing for Marmite. |

Name:
Emma
Job: PR and communications manager
Favourite product: Cushions – I’ve been trying
to perfect my DIY skills lately and have just finished decorating
our sitting room using paint from the Little Greene Paint Company.
Despite being a total novice, I’m pretty chuffed with the
results, especially the lovely new and cushions for the sofa, chairs
and floor which have provided the perfect finishing touch.
Passions: I really love, love, love being outdoors –
so biking, kayaking, walking and football are always top of my list.
Apart from spending time with my lovely family and friends, I also
like going to gigs and have a bit of a thing for the American band 'Midlake.'
